2005 Toyota Tacoma
Compact pickup trucks are proliferating at a rapid rate these days. The popular
Toyota Tacoma is getting a complete makeover for 2005, growing larger in every
dimension to provide passengers bigger room, cargo space and towing capacity than
ever before. It was at the 2004 Chicago Auto Show that the 2005 Toyota Tacoma
was displayed in an X-Runner trim carefully designed to replace the current S-Runner
sport truck.
The new 2005 Tacoma has gotten larger in size. The wheelbase measures five inches
longer and the track, four inches wider than the previous truck. This upsizing
is as well evident inside the cabin as its interior shoulder and hip room are
up in 4.5 inches. Compared to other Tacomas with two-wheel-drive, the X-Runner
is slammed one inch on an 18-inch 45-series performance tires with firmer and
shorter springs with tuned Bilstein gas shocks.
Similar with the 2004 F-150, 2005 Tacoma's rear shocks are mounted outboard of
the frame rails for increased vehicle stability. Power comes from a 4.0-liter,
240-horsepower V6 engine that produces 275 lb.-ft. of torque. An installed supercharger
enables the X-Runner a 300-horserange, though without it, it could accelerate
to 60 mph in seven seconds. Standard hood scoop, integrated front fog lights,
antilock brakes, and full ground effects differentiate Tacoma X-Runner from other
models. Likewise, another added feature is the monochromatic Access Cab body paint
which will then be offered in a limited array of colors.
